ok, i totally missed the deadhead thing (thank god), but i'm totally doin the MuseHead thing. After my first show last year at the Wiltern, my relationship with this band instantly transformed from fan into follower status.

Seeing Muse live is such a freakout glorious experience from beginning to end I totally can't get enough of it. I have never been so addicted to a musical experience, and i've been to a helluva lot of shows in my short 28 years on planet earth.

Having to wait over a year for Muse's return to the states has been agony, but I finally saw em again at the San Francisco show, and well, walked away disappointed. I was extremely exhausted and fresh out of the hospital, which probably contributed, but I thought the location and vibe was pretty weak too.

Then i saw them in my hometown of Philly, and holy shit! my faith was completely restored, and i was on top of the world for weeks. The Electric Factory crowd was totally into it, and i got right up against the stage for most of the second half of the show. Its been over a month now, and i'm really itchin for my Muse fix. Luckily September is Muse Month!

First, there's the Vegas show on the 21st for which i have floor tix. Then there's the show at UC Davis with the Strokes on the 28th, which i also have floor tix for. Really interested to see how that combo juxtaposes. THEN, just two days later is the Download Festival, and I'll finally get to see Muse in a festival setup, and after seeing the Glastonbury DVD, my hopes are really high for this one.

YEAAAHHH MUSE MONTH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, that's what I want to know. How is it possible that Muse played an even better show on Thursday than they did on Wednesday in LA?

Wednesday night was pretty off the hook. A change-up from the regular set list they toured with, they rocked Los Angeles *hard* at the Wiltern theater. I had a small wish list... a couple older songs, and perhaps move Apocalypse Please, etc. Nothing major, because it was a phenomenal show.

But Thursday December 9th, 2004 was quite possibly the band's best show ever. No, I haven't been to them all. I've been fortunate enough to see them several times this year, and I've heard enough live recordings to know when they're at the top of their game. Or at least I thought I did. Last night, a new standard was set. And fortunately for us all, the night was being recorded - both audio and video. Hopefully this will make for a domestic DVD release to help tide us all over between now and the next record.

The set opened up with Hysteria. Fitting, considering that the crowd was losing its mind as Muse took the stage. From there they went off into The Small Print and Thoughts Of A Dying Atheist with reckless abandon, and the crowd followed every step. And the hits came... Bliss, Sing For Absolution, Plug In Baby, Butterflies And Hurricanes, New Born... they even brought out Muscle Museum and Sunburn. They played Space Dementia last night as well, but on Thursday night it was with renewed fervor - whether it was because the audience was that much more intense or because they knew the night was being filmed, it doesn't really matter because it just kicked ass. Then Time Is Running Out was on, and while I'm sure Matthew was singing it well, you could hardly tell for everyone in the Wiltern was singing along at the top of their lungs.

The audience might have needed the break more than the band. But after a few minutes, the people up front started screaming and we could hear an all-too-familiar thump-thump-thump, thump thump pattern. Clapping and stomping along, the sound became thunderous as Muse marched into Apocalypse Please, followed by set closer Stockholm Syndrome. All in all, an incredible show. If we're lucky, they'll get it edited and brought to market soon - this is the gig they'd want to remember the Absolution tour by.

I also thought I'd be some kind of genius and record the gig into the computer, then serve up some MP3's, but lo and behold, KROQ screwed up the broadcast.

After a couple minutes of the broadcast, I made out some strange noises. A voice, and some drum patterns that made no sense. After a few more minutes, it became obvious that someone working the sound for the show had left open a couple microphones on the other side of the stage (the benefit show had one of those rotating stages so one band could set up while the other played).

Anybody else hear this? Was anyone at the show, or hear it broadcast on the radio? I'm curious as to whether this was a problem only with the streaming broadcast or if it affected the whole gig.

FYI, Muse is doing the Wiltern theater (great venue) in LA on December 9. A short presale happened today, with tickets going on sale tomorrow (Saturday) at 11am. General Admission floor, great acoustics at the venue, it holds only a few thousand. It's a Thursday night show.

Keep your eyes open, the word I have is that it's set up for a rollover, which means that another night will be added when sales hit a certain percentage of capacity (usually between 80-85% of capacity).

Not sure if this is part of the tour or a one-off gig before the holidays and the alleged new recording sessions that are supposed to be happening sometime soon. Either way, it's going to be a great night.

As I mentioned in my previous post I had the unfortunate experience of first hearing MUSE a mere week after they had played a show in my neighboring Seattle at a small(as in TINY) venue.
I assumed that would have been the last chance to see them in a real venue before the stadiums consumed them.
Well, though they are finally seeing their fair share of larger arenas in the states, I am more than pleased to boast, they are playing the smallest venue on their present tour right here in Portland about 3 miles from my house.
The venue is brand new, but from what I hear it only holds about 600-700 people which is at least 200 less than the next to smallest show in Sacramento they're doing two days prior. PLUS I hear it's undersold AND the place has a killer new sound system.
So anyway, I just had to gloat over this. GLOAT GLOAT GLOAT.
I swear, I've been doing so much MUSE evangelising locally lately, they should give me liner notes on their next album.
Heehee. ..
But seriously folks, my friends are all worried about me because I NEVER, as in EVER reccommend shows unless they are damn well worth seeing. And I have been bouncing off the walls for this one.

Let's hear it for internet radio! Because otherwise, I probably never would have heard this amazing band.
Brand new Muse fan here. Hello everyone, Mo-Ren, .::thel::., Dj.
I've been hearing these guys on Super Slut radio off Shoutcast.com (silly name-great station) and when I finally got around to looking them up, I realized I had just missed their show in Seattle by two days. (D'oh!)
Anyhow, I got Absolution today and I am loving it. When a band like this is so totally unknown in the states, it just speaks volumes of how clogged the airwaves are with so much consumer trash. America needs 500cc's of Drano, STAT!
I read a great review of them on Amazon where this guy reflected on how let down he was following Radiohead's Kid-A and how Muse seems to be the band to pick up where they left off. I couldn't agree more, but I'm noticing now that I have the CD that despite the obvious similarities, their sound is actually different in that it's so much heavier and louder. And the Jeff Buckley-isms are a very welcome influence to the mix.
Definitely my new favorite band, for sure.

MUSE singer MATT BELLAMY has seen a specialist about his damaged mouth.

As previously reported, the singer was hospitalised after a horrific onstage accident.

During a show in Atlanta Bellamywas left bleeding from his mouth, meaning the gig was cut short and the singer taken to hospital. A show in Philadelphia was also pulled.

Today (April 14) it’s been revealed Bellamy has seen a specialist about the incident, who has advised him he can carry on with the band’s tour of North America. A show this evening in New York will go ahead as planned.

A statement from the band reads: "Muse are pleased to announce that their show in the Bowery, New York on the 14th April will go ahead. Matt’s injuries to his mouth have been seen by a specialist and after receiving treatment, Matt feels he is still able to play the show."
